Nightingale Hospital is the realization of a dream envisioned by the late Dr. N.K. Agarwala, a pioneering ENT specialist in Assam. His vision was to establish a premier ENT facility in Northeast India—one that delivered specialized, high-quality care with compassion and integrity.
The foundation stone for Nightingale Hospital was laid in 1989, and operations began the same year on a modest scale, with just 15 staff members and 7 inpatient beds. Despite its small beginnings, the hospital quickly earned a reputation for excellence under Dr. Agarwala’s leadership. His dream was to create a center of ENT excellence with cutting-edge treatment and patient-first care.
Tragically, Dr. Agarwala passed away before he could see his full vision come to life. His untimely demise was a profound setback, marking a period of uncertainty. Yet, the team he inspired remained steadfast. With resilience and commitment, they upheld the standards he had set, keeping his mission alive.
A Legacy Continued
Mrs. Sumitra Agarwala, wife of Dr. Agarwala, stepped in to lead the hospital during this critical period. With grace and determination, she guided Nightingale Hospital through its growth phase—expanding both its infrastructure and reputation. Her dedication ensured that her husband’s legacy not only endured but thrived.
In 2010, she was joined by her son, Mr. Nishant Agarwala, who brought youthful energy and modern administrative insight to the hospital’s operations. Under their combined leadership, Nightingale Hospital has grown into one of the most respected ENT centers in the region.
